Goodbye Impressions, Hello iTero Intraoral Scanner
Getting impressions taken tends to be patients’ least favorite part of getting braces. Luckily for our patients at Carter & Higgins Orthodontics, that no longer has to be a part of the process.
The iTero Intraoral Scanner is a wand that takes a series of images of the patient’s mouth and then compiles them together to be later created into a 3D image. The wand takes 6,000 images per second, making the finished product accurate and reliable for the specific patient.
The advantage of using the scanner on patients is that they don’t have to worry about taking gooey impressions. Instead, they sit back and relax while the wand rotates around their mouth. Gone are the days of sticky and thick goo and gagging on impressions!
The scanner is also a relief for patients with sensitive gag reflexes. Unlike impressions, the wand has no mess and won’t fall as far back as the impression paste. Patients no longer have to worry about feeling uneasy after visiting the orthodontist.
We also know that kiddos don’t love having their parents look in their mouths. The 3D image created is an excellent way for parents and patients to see exactly what the doctor is discussing regarding their diagnosis.
Lastly, iTero works exceptionally well for patients who might not be able to sit still as long as others. Since the iTero is a scanner that takes a series of pictures, the patient can give their mouth a rest at any point in the process. This is in favor of impressions because the whole mold could be distorted if the patient moves too much. Which means we’d have to take the impression a second time. With iTero, accuracy is achieved in a fast and reasonable amount of time.
