Dr. Emily has compiled her top 5 smoothies for braces.  Those first days after adjustments can leave you craving some soft food.  There are great local spots here in Tulsa to grab a smoothie like Nourish and the Coffee House on Cherry Street.  Here are some of our favorite recipes that you can make at home!  Add spinach to any of these- we promise you won’t taste it and it adds so many nutrients to your smoothie!

  1. Orange-Banana-Pineapple Frappe
  2. Strawberry Banana Smoothie (adapted from Gimme Some Oven)
    1. 1 fresh peeled banana
    2. 2 cups frozen strawberries
    3. 1 cup of milk, kefir, almond milk, or soy milk
    4. 1 cup of ice
    5. 1 tablespoon of honey
    6. A couple big handfuls of spinach-we promise, it’s great!
  3. Anti-Inflammatory Cherry Mango Smoothie- A great natural anti-inflammatory to help ease any discomfort!
    1. 1 cup frozen sweet cherries
    2. 1 cup frozen mango
    3. 1.5 cups vanilla almond milk
    4. 1 banana
    5. a couple big handfuls of spinach
  4. Pumpkin Pie Smoothie- This is perfect for the fall season!
    1. 1 frozen banana
    2. 1/2 cup (120g) vanilla Greek yogurt1
    3. 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    4. 1/4 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice2
    5. 1/2 cup (120ml) skim milk3
    6. 2 Tablespoons (30ml) pure maple syrup
    7. 2/3 cup (150g) pumpkin puree (canned or fresh)
    8. 1 cup ice
  5. Tropical Sunshine Smoothie
    1. 2 cups frozen mango cubes
    2. 1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
    3. 1 ripe banana
    4. 1/4 cup orange juice
    5. 1 cup water
    6. 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
    7. 1/4 teaspoon coconut extract
    8. A couple big handfuls of spinach-trust us on this!
